Steve Omohundro - AI and Transhuman Morality

Steve Omohundro, Ph.D., President of Self-Aware Systems, a Silicon Valley company which is developing a new artificial intelligence technology based on software that understands and improves itself.

Steve will talk on "AI and Transhuman Morality. New developments in evolutionary psychology are shedding light on the nature of human happiness and human morality. New developments in self-improving artificial intelligence are shedding light on the basic drives of AI systems. This talk will discuss the implications for the transhumanist vision for individuals and society. Topics will include:
the emergence of rationality and multiple levels of identity, future addictions and the dangers of wireheading, self-modification for commitment, the blending of corporations and individuals, the sexual origins of altruism and the suppression of psychopathy, the choice of red pill vs. blue pill, the end of evolution, compassionate social orders, and the future of meaning and belief.
