Meeting Description

Organized by

Richard Leis

Details

This is a first effort of getting the Promethean Transhumanist Group off the ground. List of topics, book club and potential future meetings will be discussed.

All sentients are welcome! Participation now will help guide what we do in the future. Primarily I see us as a discussion group - but we could be more.

Do attendees need to participate or can they just listen? Participants decide the level of their activity.

So why "Prometheans"? Because while Transhumanists are cool, I thought that Promethean Transhumanists were even cooler.

If the night is good, we'll meet outside on the park tables.

"Hey Bob, It was intersting meeting you and the others last night. My primary thing coming out of the meeting was wondering the purpose of the get together. I partially understood what you said about getting people together with common interest but I did not fully understand the transhumanist Beatles analogy. From my own perspective I see transhumanism as inevitable eventually and while there is some roll for support of things like stem cell research and a few other contemporary issues, I don't see the need for popularization of the ideas. In fact I see popularization as most likely being counter-productive by rousing the reactionary elements that are way to powerful in society against work like that which I hope to accomplish. Perhaps I have a bit of an elitist attitude here but this is the same reason we are advised generally not to highlight our animal research outside of the scientific community. Myself, I'm looking for a group where I can say "upload" and not be stigmatized. "
